Nokia 920 Screen replacement

I usually only do iPhone repairs, like I said, to study best practices. However tonight I am working on something different and is repairing for someone who I don’t really want to disappoint him.

Anyway, Nokia Lumia 920 screen replacement , should be simple job right?

removed bottom two screws and cover off.IMG_1442

Then I started to removing screws for logic board and…IMG_1445

It never going to be easy to work on phones that been touched by someone, look at the black screw on the right most? It has light scratches around it. Now, here are two problems:

  1. the screw is size T2, which is very very small, and is sort of rounded.
  2. I am not sure if the scratches on the PCB going to affect anything buy it suggests someone doesn’t quite know mobile phone repairs touched it. It may have more problems than just a faulty screen.

Anyway, keep going…IMG_1446hmm… what is this little black guy ? Front facing camera, this is a design flaw in this model that would allow dusts get in between front screen and camera, there is no way to clean it if you do not disassemble it like this…

IMG_1448cleaned, should be able to take pretty selfies now..

IMG_1449test it before putting it together, seems ok. notice the line between earpiece and front facing camera? It looks like the owner was trying to clean that dusty camera without success and used brute force. Brute force in programming is the simplest method to resolve a puzzle but sometimes it doesn’t work, like this.

IMG_1450this cracked one can be used in my already damaged 920 for Arduino virtual shields 🙂

phew, looks like it worked!
